MD5 Fingerprints to filter inlined image attachments

Email processed by Email This Issue or JIRA itself often contain image signatures or company logos. These images are added as attachments to the issues.

As there may be heavy correspondence, these images are added multiple times.

Email This Issue has a mechanism to filter attachments by their content (MD5 hash) and their name. This works fine if the files, images are attached to the emails as a real attachments.

However, signature images are inlined into the email body and not attached to it.

Inlined image content is ofter slightly altered (resized, resampled, meta data added) by email clients like Outlook and email servers. As a consequence, the uploaded MD5 hashes will not match the images.

Unfortunately there is no reliable solution yet to filter out inlined images from emails.
